Greetings everyone

We have an exciting Sunday Service planned for this Sunday.

For weeks we have been planning a Final Service for our 180 years Celebrations.  We are using some of the material from a previous historical service in 2012. Over the last 2 years we have found some new stories from parish records and personal memories. We will share some of these.

We will also celebrate St Andrews Day and the beginning of Advent and the Christian World Service Appeal.  And because it will be a day of celebration, we will have a cake at morning tea.

In early 2019, several members were invited to join this 180 Anniversary Committee and about 15 people sat down to plan the year.  We had all kinds of ideas but settled on 4 activities.  The first was to celebrate our “Founders Day” at the Iona Cross on the Petone Foreshore.  We shared this service with our whanau family from Te Kakano o te Aroha.   It was a bit windy but a pleasant service.

Our second project was to collect material for our Book of Memories. Since the last history was written several ministers have written about their time at St Andrews – particularly Jack Sommerville, Lloyd  Geering, John Murray and Susan Jones.  There are others.   Some members have written about how they came to worship at St Andrews. Or their personal story of St Andrews.  There is a record of the Saving St Andrews project and Crossways joining St Andrews.  We hope to put this material on our Website, which was beyond my computer skills, but James Cone is organising all this material in one file.  You will then all be able to read the contributions.

But then the COVID-19 Lockdown came and some of the planned activities such as Mid-winter Dinner, just never happened.

We have had a Historical Highlight each month and some members have sorted through cupboards and records so there will be a further deposit of records to the National Library.

We hope to see you on Sunday
