E NEWS 25th September 2026
Talofa lava, dear friends,
I hope you are all doing well. It has been a week of illness for me so this will be a very short E News. After church on Sunday, I went straight home to bed and stayed there for much of the week.
I came in on Wednesday for Rev Dorothy Harvey’s memorial service. It was a beautiful occasion, followed by a lovely cup of tea. Thank you to Maxine and her wonderful team for caring for Dorothy’s family and everyone who gathered.
Later that evening, I attended the Housing Forum at the Cathedral. Unbeknownst to me, I had been seated in the second row among church and government leaders. Paul Barber representing the Salvation Army and Ata Burr wearing her Caritas hat were part of the organising team of Christian Churches. It was really important to hear of the struggle of the disabled in getting accessible housing and being able to afford it and to hear from those Agencies that are doing tireless work on behalf of the homeless and the poor.
The person seated next to me turned out to be a dear friend from Auckland, a lovely surprise. Pam Elgar is the Chief Executive of LifeWise of the Methodist Church Aotearoa NZ.
I also caught up with a relative I had not seen for about twenty years. It was good to see such a strong turnout from St Andrew’s, as you can see in the photos. By the time the group photos were taken, though, I had slipped away. It had been a very long day!
This Sunday is our Animal Blessing Sunday in the Season of Creation. You are warmly invited to bring a pet to be blessed during the service. I look forward to seeing you and your furry friends.
Day light saving begins this Sunday so don’t forget to put your clocks forward as in “Spring forward” on Saturday night. If you forget and you arrive an hour early for church there is coffee etc. upstairs outside my office.
