E-NEWS FRIDAY 7TH NOVEMBER 2025
Well, it’s been a quiet week—and when I say quiet, I mean there haven’t been any big external meetings outside the office! Things are ticking over slowly as we prepare for what will be a very full and busy month of November.
Next Sunday we have a christening for baby Aoile Robinson. A family who will be returning back to Northern Ireland mid-December after living here for 8 years. . They’re eager to have their 21-month-old baby christened before they depart as she is Catholic and he is Presbyterian and things will be so much complicated when they return back home, so it will be a very special occasion for them and for us as a community.
On Sunday 23 November, we mark the Transgender Memorial Service, with our keynote speaker Mani Mitchell, who will also offer the reflection for the morning.
Then, on Sunday 30 November, which is Advent 1, Rev. Amy Remaklus will be leading our service.
Looking ahead, Sunday 7 December will be a particularly joyful morning. We will celebrate St Andrew’s Day with the blessing of the new access ramp, our fundraising offering, Communion, and a shared lunch afterwards. Hamish will once again fill the air with the sound of the bagpipes—so please, bring something delicious to share for lunch as we gather in gratitude and celebration.
And then, on Sunday 14 December, we will host the launch of Jim Veitch’s new book, Lloyd Geering: Prophet or Heretic? We expect visitors from the Ephesus Group, Sea of Faith, and other communities who have followed Lloyd Geering’s remarkable legacy. The launch will take place during coffee time after the service. I have invited Rev Dr Jim Veitch to do the reflection time but this is yet to be confirmed.
So yes—it’s been a quiet week, but things are about to get very lively as we move into this rich and meaningful season of Advent and celebration.
This coming Sunday the jury is still out regarding my reflection. There is the option of reflecting on Psalm 98 on music but I think Cam will have that well covered in Family Time. The other option is our Lukan reading chapter 20:27-38. Who’s wife is she?
A couple of us will be attending Jane Keller’s show tonight “The Great Gadsby” and tomorrow I am going to watch our young Kezia perform in the play Ophelia at the Lower Hutt little theatre. Look forward to seeing you on Sunday. Ka kite ano. Fei
