E-NEWS 19TH SEPTEMBER 2025
Mōrena! 🌿✨
What a beautiful way to mark the final day of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori. Yes, I’ve picked up a few extra kupu (words) this week too.
Here are a few you might enjoy carrying forward beyond this week:
- Mihi – greeting, acknowledgment
- Whakapono – faith, belief
- Manākitanga – hospitality, kindness, looking after others
- Kotahitanga – unity, togetherness
- Whakawhanaungatanga – building relationships, making connections
Kapiti Cluster Gathering
Last Saturday, our Kapiti cluster group met at the home of Gillian and Russell Feist in Waikanae. A group of ten of us gathered and enjoyed warm fellowship over shared food and storytelling. We were delighted to welcome Barbara and Marcel, who joined us for the first time from Peka Peka, and also Michael Parker, currently a temporary resident in Waikanae until the end of this year. A heartfelt thank you to Gillian and Russell for their generous hospitality.
Today our staff will be fare welling Germaine. We are having lunch at a Dragon’s Yum Cha Restaurant in Tory Street. Germaine and her partner will travel to the United Kingdom next week to pursue their music careers in London. We wish her well and pray for safe journeys and blessings as they settle into a new place.
I hosted the Inner City ministers gathering yesterday. There were 4 of us present Elliot the Baptist minister from Wellington Central Baptist, Alistair from St. Johns Willis Street and Jean from St. Peters. It was a good catch up on how each one is doing in our own little neck of the woods.
This week I needed to clone myself as Queen Margaret College changed their Board meeting to Wednesday instead of Thursday and I also had our Finance and Facilities meeting at the same time. I couldn’t attend both but in the end got out of another evening meeting on Thursday instead. You have to look at the bright side of things.
October the 5th would normally be St. Francis of Assisi Sunday but I have changed it to this Sunday for our Animal Blessing service. We cannot celebrate both communion and the blessing of the animals on the same stage it would be a huge Health and Safety issue. So if you have a furry friend please bring them along to church. It is bound to be a cute fun filled time.
Our Young Adults Y group meet this Sunday after coffee. Please come along and bring some food to share and we can share our news and our stories.
My younger sister Helen is visiting Wellington next Thursday and Friday so I will be taking annual leave and she and I will be doing some sisterly pampering things together.
Our service next week is Eco Sunday and it will be led by Sonia Groes-Petrie and friends. Please come and support them.
A reminder that Communion Sunday 5th October we will be taking a Church Group Photo on the stage after church. This is first time this has been done for some time if ever. It would be really great if you were able to join us for this photo. You do not have to be a member, whanau or an associate, come as a friend you will be very welcome.
Enjoy your weekend.
A little blessing for today:
“Kia kaha te reo, kia kaha te tangata.”
(Let the language be strong, let the people be strong.)
