E-NEWS 18TH JULY 2025

Tis winter!  Maybe it’s old age, but everything seems to slow down.  The Scottish term “cowrie in against the cold” comes to mind.   And yet skiers are rushing down hills in the snow and it is glorious when the sun comes out.
Here is a poem of a 7 year old about winter:
As Winter Comes
The days are wet, and cold and windy.
The nights go longer and longer.
When the night falls, the wind howls,
And rain splatters on your windowsill,
You know that winter has come.

All snuggled up in bed with hot chocolates,.
Blankets and hot water bottles.
You know that you are warm and safe
For this night, and another, to come.

We dug some compost into the garden yesterday and will have to plant and cover some winter greens to get them growing.  The blackbird has a daily very enthusiastic splash bath in an empty plant pot saucer in our garden.  The lemon tree is simply glowing with gold.

And I have finally finished writing my reflection – something I have been writing in my head in the middle of the night.  This is not something I want to do often – should leave it to the professionals……!
Abraham, Mary and Martha are the characters in the readings for Sunday.  We will explore the themes of Listening and learning, hospitality and social action.
We do have a wonderfully talented crew of worship leaders both lay and ordained who have filled in magnificently while Fei has been on study leave.  I have valued the insights they have given to us.  Just think of all the insight and riches of thought and story Fei will have to share with us – not long now before she returns.
