E-NEWS FRIDAY 23RD MAY 2025

This Sunday will be the last Sunday of Autumn. In typing this I am thinking that we have discussions about when Spring really starts but Winter just happens!

Over recent years we have had the term “Happy Place” introduced into our vocabulary. I spend Thursdays at Mikimiki on our land. It is a place that restores me, it is peaceful. It has the sound of  a river, it has trees, it has views of green hills and mountains, fantails keep me company and my beloved flock of sheep come to greet me (looking for sheep nuts). I know all my neighbours! People tell me this must be my “Happy Place”.  I suspect we have always had “Happy Places” it was just we didn’t express it with these words. A conversation starter for Sunday could be “where is your Happy Place?”

This Sunday would have been my Mothers ‘legal’ 100th birthday.  I say ‘legal’ because her birthday was always celebrated on the 23rd of May. It was only when she applied for a Passport that it came with her birth date as the 25th May. In 1925 births would have been recorded in hand writing and clearly the 3 looked like a 5.  A case of miss communication. In the reflection time on Sunday I will look at communication with its difficulties. I will also bring some of my dear Mums wisdom to the message. This would embarrass her, but it is 32 years since she died so I think it is time to celebrate her contribution to the wisdom of the nation!
