E NEWS 2ND OCTOBER 2026

Talofa lava, warm Pacific greetings to you all.  I hope you are all well and those of us who have had the flu and colds and sniffles I hope you are on the road to recovery.  It’s hard to believe that we are in October already, only 12 weeks or 84 days until Christmas.

Last Friday I went and paid a visit to our dear theologian in resident, Sir Lloyd Geering, who is now 108. He has graduated from his apartment on the ground floor up to the fourth floor at Bob Scott into the rest-home part of the facility. He is doing fine, and we had a lovely short visit together. Here is a picture of the two of us from Friday afternoon.

On Sunday we had our Animal Blessing Service as part of our Season of Creation, and it was great. We had six fur babies turn up with their owners, and they were all very well behaved and no mishaps including the dogs! It was a lovely service for everybody and a wonderful way to celebrate the animals who share our lives and homes with us.

I also had a bit of a tour of three of our villagers around Wellington, visiting three of our parishioners Sir Lloyd Geering at Bob Scott, then Margaret and John Harper at Dame Malvina Major, and finally Jenny Simpson, who is having some respite care at Rita Angus in Kilbirnie. It was lovely to catch up with them, and I’m pleased to say that all are doing well. We will continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

This Sunday is Communion Sunday and our reflections theme is  “Entitlement”, looking at Matthew 21:33–46, the parable of the tenants in the vineyard. These tenants began to act as though the land and vineyard belonged to them, when they had been entrusted with their care in good faith by the landowner. We’ll explore the extreme measures they took to try to claim ownership of something that was never theirs. There are plenty of implications here, both historical and contemporary, for us to think about together this Sunday.

Being the first Sunday of the month please bring some food to share together afterwards in our community lunch.

I hope the weather stays fine and warm, I have many household tasks to do tomorrow and I look forward to seeing those of you who are able to meet in person on Sunday or feel free to join our livestream online at approximately 10.15am on our Facebook page.  Remember there are two Face book pages it is not the one with the photo of our church but the page with the blue and red icon of our church.
