We welcome you for an evening of song on Saturday 1st July\, 7pm at St Andrew’s on The Terrace\, as we look up at the heavens to reflect on the past and dream of the future. This is a time for our community to gather and to share. \nOur Matariki programme has been brilliantly curated by our musical director\, Rachel Hyde. It brings together songs from around the world that share the universal human curiosity of the stars and their meaning – how they shape our lives and guide us. \nAt the centre of this programme is the premiere of our new commission for the occasion: Our Youngest Star – composed by the talented Takerei Komene with text by Stacey Teague. It is an ode to Hiwa-i-te-Rangi\, the Carrier of Wishes. This was made possible with support from the Creative Communities Scheme. \nThis may be our most diverse programme yet\, drawing from a wide range of musical traditions and cultures\, from waiata to classics of musical theatre. \nOur focus is on sharing our music and building our community. Please be our guests for a light supper afterwards. \nThe Glamaphones rehearses weekly at 6.30pm on Thursdays\, at St Andrew’s on the Terrace. We do not audition and we welcome all to sing with us\, as a rainbow community group. SUMMARY:Lunchtime Concert: NZSM Brass Ensemble Concert
DESCRIPTION:The NZSM Brass Ensemble presents a lunchtime concert of interesting and easily digestible repertoire. Shannon Pittaway (Head of Brass at NZSM) will lead the ensemble through works such as Howarth’s atmospheric imagining of “Greensleeves” and a brass adaptation of Gershwin’s “Three Preludes”. Two original compositions by Jan Koetsier and Raymond Premru form the core of the programme and were inspired by the famous British ensemble “The Philip Jones Brass Ensemble”
