DESCRIPTION:Dulcis Tibia Recorder Quartet: Recorders (with great and contra basses) play arrangements of Renaissance music\, Bach\, Vivaldi\, Satie and popular 20th century songs \nPerformed by — Katrin Eickhorst\, Rachel Patrick\, Roger Palmer and Tessa Coppard \nProbably New Zealand’s only regularly performing recorder quartet\, Dulcis Tibia was founded in 2018 and has been performing regularly in the Wellington area. It comprises four accomplished and experienced players\, who have extensive performance and teaching experience up to tertiary level\, also on other instruments. They have long been active members of the Recorders and Early Music Union\, two of them as past and present presidents.

DESCRIPTION:*Photo courtesy of New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Te Tira Pūoro o Aotearoa \nDelightful duos for violin and cello with Christine and Ian \nIan Greenberg\nIan Greenberg joined the NZSO as Assistant Principal cellist in March\, 2023. He began cello at the age of five in his hometown of Ashland\, Oregon\, continuing his studies at Northwestern University\, the Eastman School of Music and the Glenn Gould School. He is a member of the Britt Festival Orchestra and has performed with various ensembles including the Toronto Symphony\, Milwaukee Symphony\, Santa Fe Opera\, and the New World Symphony. \nChristine Wang\nChristine has been a member of the second violin section of New Zealand Symphony Orchestra since 2022. Prior to this\, she was Assistant Concertmaster of San Antonio Symphony and freelanced between the US and Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Music from Eastman School of Music and Master of Music at Rice University\, studying under Oleh Krysa and Kathleen Winkler respectively.

DESCRIPTION:The bass trombone is a relatively unknown solo instrument\, often relegated to the back row of ensembles. This recital reveals what transpires when you pair a bass trombonist with an internationally celebrated concert pianist. What are the sonic possibilities of such a collaboration and why on earth would Jian Liu agree to perform with a brute from the back row?! The programme will take the listener on a journey from Schumann and Shostakovich to the end of the 20th century with two enthralling works (Sarcich and Schnyder) showcasing the virtuosity and artistry of NZSO’s Bass Trombonist\, Shannon Pittaway and NZSM’s Senior Lecturer in Piano\, Jian Liu.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for this very special concert with Martin Griffiths (cello)\, Celia Griffiths (violin) and Kathryn Mosley (piano) – A Katherine Mansfield Anniversary Celebration. The concert features music by Arnold Trowell\, a close friend of Katherine Mansfield\, and includes his Sonata in F\, Op. 30\, for cello and piano. The cello\, which Mansfield first learned in Wellington\, was her favourite instrument. \nWith the one hundredth anniversary of Mansfield’s death last year\, there has been a sustained interest in her contribution to literature\, which includes several uniquely musical short stories. A cyclic\, single-movement trio in “chapters” – Ancient Irish Folk Songs – is a musically analogous example of Mansfield’s writing style and concludes this programme.

DESCRIPTION:Antonia Grant is a Wellington-based violinist who recently graduated from Te Kōki New Zealand School of Music with a Graduate Diploma in Music. Her work spans orchestral playing\, recording new compositions\, and solo performance. She has a particular passion for Baroque music and plays as a violinist for the Queen’s Closet Baroque orchestra. \nWilliam Berry is a 20-year-old pianist who has enjoyed success in competitions across New Zealand. He has performed in masterclasses with globally renowned pianists such as Boris Berman\, Edith Fischer\, James Giles and Joyce Yang. William completed his undergraduate piano performance degree at Victoria University of Wellington in 2023\, studying under Dr. Jian Liu\, gaining various faculty prizes during his studies. \nAntonia and William will perform a programme of music by two French composers: \nCésar Franck – Sonata for Violin and Piano in A Major \nClaude Debussy – Sonata for Violin and Piano in G Minor
