DESCRIPTION:Music by Bach\, Buxtehude and Scheidemann and Bjarne Sløgedal. \nInternational Concert Organist\, Paul Rosoman was born and educated in New Zealand\, and is currently Director of Music at both St Luke’s Church\, and Old St Paul’s in Wellington. As a concert organist\, Paul tours in Europe each year\, performing in major concert venues and festivals. He plays regularly in New Zealand\, and in 2021 performed as part of the Welcome Home’ concert at St Andrew’s on the Terrace on the newly restored Croft Organ.\nIn 2019 performing with The Orpheus Choir of Wellington in their “Carol of the Bells” concert\, while in 2018 he performed as part of the New Zealand Festival chamber music series collaborating with NZSO brass players\, in a concert commemorating WW100. He has recently returned from his 2023 European tour which saw him performing in Germany and Austria.\nPaul is Artistic Director of the New Zealand International Organ Festival\, an event presented by the Zimbelstern Foundation – a charitable foundation of which he is Board Chair and Artistic Director. He is also the Director of Bayard Limited\, a boutique artist and concert management company specialising in representing organists. As a recording artist\, his CDs include “Great Organ”\, recorded at St Peter’s on Willis in Wellington on the 1886 William Hill organ\, and “Ciacona!”\, the first commercial recording of the organ of Old St Paul’s in Wellington. Performances by Paul are regularly heard on Radio New Zealand and also on the European radio station Organroxx. \nOrgan works by Bach\, Buxtehude and Scheidemann and Bjarne Sløgedal.

DESCRIPTION:NZ’s premier Sax Quartet delivers a rich kaleidoscope of sounds – swing\, classical\, tango\, cutting edge NZ contemporary and much more. For decades this group have delighted both old and young and are enjoyed by music lovers everywhere. \nSaxcess members include Debbie Rawson (soprano/alto)\, Richar Marin (soprano/alto)\, Peter Liley (tenor) and Tim Workman (Baritone). This concert will be a Tapas style feast of saxophone music from Latin America\, and a smorgasbord selection of tasty music from NZ. \nSaxcess is a project based collective based in New Zealand\, and is founded and lead by Debbie Rawson. The quartet have undertaken numerous nation-wide tours in their homeland and are soon to celebrate their 30th anniversary. They have also played at all the major Arts Festivals of Aotearoa and performed original New Zealand compositions at Saxophone Congresses in Australia\, Belgium and the USA. They have premiered multiple works for saxophone quartet\, and are proud to have given hundreds of schools and community outreach concerts.

Newton: Brace yourself for the innovative soundscape of Fnugg Purple. With the aid of looping technology\, Buzz creates intricate layers of sound\, pushing the boundaries of what is possible on the euphonium. \n  \nBorn in Ashburton\, Byron ‘Buzz’ Newton earned his sweet nickname while working in the family honey business. Buzz holds degrees from the University of Canterbury\, New Zealand School of Music\, and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama\, achieving a flawless 100% in his Master’s recital. \nHis diverse career includes stints with the Tredegar Town Band (Wales)\, Wellington Brass Band\, and over a decade in the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band. Buzz has performed with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra\, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra\, and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. Currently\, he serves as the Principal Tuba of Orchestra Wellington. \nCommitted to music education\, Buzz has been an Artist Teacher at the New Zealand School of Music since 2013. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a wonderful programme of Debussy’s:Prelude No.7/II: La terrasse des audiences du clair de lune and Liszt’s complete first volume “Switzerland” from the years of Pilgrimage. \nThe recital will begin with the mysterious and exquisite Prelude and the main part of the program is dedicated to the first volume – Switzerland from the Years of Pilgrimage by Franz Liszt. These are among Liszt’s most celebrated masterworks and the summation of his musical style. This is also the research topic for Luu’s doctoral thesis. Luu is thrilled to begin his own “pilgrimage” in Wellington\, New Zealand\, examining the spiritual experiences of Liszt’s Romantic soul and sharing his first performance in the capital.

DESCRIPTION:Katrin Eickhorst\, Rachel Patrick\, Roger Palmer and Tessa Coppard present a programme of Renaissance music\, including Marini and Monteverdi\, along with gems by Bach\, folk and 20th-century popular songs. \nDulcis Tibia was founded in 2018 and has been performing regularly in the Wellington area since 2018. It comprises four accomplished and experienced players with tertiary music degrees\, who have extensive performance and teaching experience to tertiary level also on other\ninstruments. They have long been active members of the Recorders and Early Music Union\, two of them as past and present presidents.

DESCRIPTION:Join Jia Ling (Guzheng) and Pei-Ying (Piano) on a Romantic journey to the east\, sharing an exquisite blend of Eastern and Western music\, ranging from Traditional Chinese music to modern interpretations of Guzheng. \nJia Ling is a GuZheng lecturer of China Cultural Centre and the Confucius Institute of Victoria University in Wellington. She graduated from Shanghai Conservatory of Music and Majored in GuZheng Performance. Jia Ling has been learning Gu Zheng with Chinese National Gu Zheng Master\, Educator\, Professor Sun Wenyan. Jia Ling moved to New Zealand in 2018. She has lectured in more than 50 schools in and around the Wellington area from primary to tertiary institutes. Jia Ling has been invited to perform by Weta Studio\, Wellington Jazz Festival and the NZ government at the Parliament\, with around 100 multicultural performances all over NZ. \nPei-Ying completed her M.Mus (Piano Performance) in 2005 with Diedre Irons and Maurice Till at the University of Canterbury. She has worked as a rehearsal accompanist alongside Dame Malvina Major and performed with several soloists including Hayley Westernra\, Yoomia Sim and Wolfgang Kraemer. Pei-Ying currently works as a piano teacher from her studio and as a collaborative pianist\, working alongside members from NZSO and Orchestra Wellington.

She was\nsubsequently awarded scholarships to study at the University of Southern California with\nDonald McInnes and the University of Texas at Austin with Roger Myers.\nIn 2023 Sophia began her permanent role as section player with the New Zealand Symphony\nOrchestra. She has enjoyed playing in many chamber groups and as a soloist with Kāpiti\nConcert Orchestra. \nJohanna Gruskin\nJohanna Gruskin joined the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra as Principal Piccolo in 2022.\nPreviously she was a member of the New World Symphony (Florida) and the Knoxville\nSymphony Orchestra. Originally from Minnesota\, she studied flute and piccolo at the\nEastman School of Music\, New England Conservatory\, and Colburn Conservatory. \nChristine Wang\nChristine has been a member of the second violin section of New Zealand Symphony\nOrchestra since 2022. SUMMARY:Lunchtime concert - Quang Hong Luu\, solo piano
DESCRIPTION:The program starts with Franz Liszt’s Funérailles\, a dramatic work that captures the revolutionary spirit of the 1848 Hungarian Revolution. It is followed by Schumann’s Scenes from Childhood\, op. 15\, a collection of miniature works that expresses the more intimate and delicate charm of the piano repertoire. The final work is the monumental f-minor Sonata by Brahms\, a grand symphonic-scale work that mixes passion with nobility. \nLuu has won numerous prizes at competitions in Italy\, Germany and Japan and has performed with numerous orchestras\, including the Queensland Symphony Orchestra\, the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra of England\, the Wuhan Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra\, and the Metropolitan Orchestra of Australia. He has given recitals in Australia\, Vietnam\, Japan\, China\, Malaysia\, the USA and France. \nHe will soon release a CD of Liszt’s 12 Transcendental Studies under the Rattle recording label. Quang is now completing a Doctor of Musical Arts at\nthe New Zealand School of Music in New Zealand under the guidance of Dr Jian Liu.
