WELCOME TO ST ANDREW’S ON THE TERRACE

The story of Jesus walking on the water is told through drama and story

GATHERING
We are called as a community of faith,
a supportive community, in which we love into being
new possibilities for one another,
calling out of each other the best we have to offer.
In so doing we follow the pattern of Jesus
who constantly accepted people as they were,
while drawing them on to realise what they could be.
In worship we build and nurture a community
where such fostering of new possibilities can take birth and grow.
We celebrate life, past, present and future
in the presence we name God.

PROCESSIONAL HYMN ‘Wake, now my senses, and hear the earth call’
Words: © Thomas J S Mickelson
Tune: Slane WOV 45
Wake, now my senses, and hear the earth call;
feel the deep power of being in all;
keep, with the web of creation your vow,
giving, receiving as love shows us how.

Wake, now my reason, reach out to the new,
join with each pilgrim who quests for the true;
honour the beauty and wisdom of time;
suffer your limit, and praise the sublime.

Wake, now compassion, give heed to the cry;
voices of suffering fill the wide sky;
take as your neighbour both stranger and friend,
praying and striving their hardship to end.

Wake, now my conscience, with justice your guide;
join with all people whose rights are denied;
take not for granted a privileged place;
God’s love embraces the whole human race.

Wake, now my vision of ministry clear;
brighten my pathway with radiance here;
mingle my calling with all who will share;
work t’ward a planet transformed by our care.

WELCOME
Kia ora tatou.
Kia ora.

BLESSING THE CHILDREN (All stand)
We send you to the Rainbow Room programme to hear stories, ask questions and have fun together.
We bless you. Amen.

PASSING THE PEACE
Feel free to pass the peace with those nearby or move to greet others further away. Passing the peace consists of shaking hands and saying “Peace be with you.” The response is “Peace be with you” or just “And with you.” Or, simply saying ‘Hello” is a good idea. Also feel free to simply observe if you wish!

HYMN CH4 533 ‘Will you come and follow me’
Words & Music: © 1987 WGRG, Iona Community. Graham Maule, John Bell.
Admin by Willow Publishing Pty. Ltd.
Music: Kelvingrove
Will you come and follow me
if I but call your name?
Will you go where you don’t know
and never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown,
will you let my name be known,
will you let my life be grown
in you and you in me?

Will you leave yourself behind
if I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind
and never be the same?
Will you risk the hostile stare
should your life attract or scare?
Will you let me answer prayer
in you and you in me?

Will you let the blinded see
if I but call your name?
Will you set the prisoners free
and never be the same?
Will you kiss the leper clean
and do such as this unseen,
and admit to what I mean
in you and you in me?

Will you love the ‘you’ you hide
if I but call your name?
Will you quell the fear inside
and never be the same?
Will you use the faith you’ve found
to reshape the world around
through my sight and touch and sound
in you and you in me?

Lord, your summons echoes true
when you but call my name.
Let me turn and follow you
and never be the same.
In your company I’ll go
where your love and footsteps show.
Thus I’ll move and live and grow
in you and you in me.

OFFERING PRAYER & DEDICATION
For the gifts we receive and the gifts we share
we give thanks.
For the abundant universe, with resources enough and to spare
we give thanks.
May our offerings of money and food, compassion and goodwill,
be multiplied to those who receive them
blessing them, as we are blessed to give. Amen

We recognise and bless the gifts brought to the table, and those which wing
their way electronically from our banks to the church’s account.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Sandra Kirby

CIRCLE OF PRAYER
We think today of the people of Brazil and the Christian World Service Partner organisation the House of Passage, providing hope to the young girls living on the streets or in the slum communities of Recife, North East Brazil. In New Zealand, we remember those in Parliament, and today we name Marama Fox and Julie Anne Genter List MPs. Here in the Central Presbytery, we pray for the leaders and people of Bell Block/Lepperton Co-operating Church, Brooklands Co-operating Church and St James' Presbyterian Church New Plymouth.

CALL TO SERVICE (standing)
Spirit of God, brooding over the waters of our chaos,
inspire us to generous living.
Wind of God, dancing over the desert of our reluctance,
lead us to the oasis of celebration.
Breath of God, inspiring communication among strangers,
make us channels of your peace.

HYMN WOV 384 ‘For all Christ’s friends’
Words: William Wallace ©2011 World Library Publications.
Music: Sine Nomine by R. V. Williams

For all Christ’s friends whose lives this world have blessed,
who by their faith and actions Christ confessed,
we praise you God, their source of graciousness.
Alleluia! Alleluia!

You were their hope, their comfort, their delight;
you helped them grow in wisdom and in might;
in joy and pain you were their one true light.
Alleluia! Alleluia!

Like them may we have Christ-like caring ways,
lives lived with wonder, tenderness and praise,
that we may live for others all our days.
Alleluia! Alleluia!

O great Communion spanning time and space,
beyond our wealth, our learning or our race,
we can be one in Jesus and his grace.
Alleluia! Alleluia!

They shall be one who value people’s worth,
one when they work for justice on the earth,
one when they love the God of all new birth.
Alleluia! Alleluia!

Lord, give us strength to live the Prophet’s dream,
Lord, fill our lives with love’s life-giving stream;
then with God’s poor we shall the world redeem.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
BLESSING & SUNG AMEN
May you be blessed with a restless discomfort
about easy answers, half-truths and superficial relationships,
so that you may seek truth boldly and love deep within your heart.

May you be blessed with holy anger at injustice, oppression,
and exploitation of people, so that you may work for justice,
freedom, and peace among all people.

May you be blessed with the gift of tears to shed
with those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation,
or the loss of all they cherish, so that you may reach out your hand
to comfort them and transform their pain into hope.

May you be blessed with enough foolishness to believe
that you really can make a difference in this world,
so that you are able, in community with others,
to do what is claimed cannot be done.
