The month of November has several occasions worth commemorating and begins with our very own Peace Week
The first Sunday is near to Parihaka Day – this moment in New Zealand history is one of our more unedifying moments. The prior weekend Peace Movement Aotearoa is running a peace workshop – check out their website. Through the week other peace related events are planned – watch the SATRS website. www.satrs.org.nz
The second Sunday in November is Armistice Day. We want to honour the dead by ending war so the good news of armistice can be celebrated with resolve for a peaceful future.
The third Sunday in November is Transgender Day of Remembrance. Tragically there are many transgender people killed worldwide each year – this year we remember one in NZ too. We hope the Glamaphones will be signing at the Gathering if they have the energy after their concert the day before!
The fourth Sunday in November is when we celebrate St Andrew, friend of Jesus and patron saint of Scotland and this parish. It is also the 125th anniversary of NZ women voting in a general election for the first time. Join in the celebrations!
