About the Book Fair
The Book Fair was started by Downtown Community Ministry as a fundraising initaitive over 10 years ago and has become a calendar event for the people of Wellington.
DCM is a small organisation, but one with big dreams. From humble beginnings it has grown bigger and better - with stock of over 60 000 books it is one of the biggest and most efficient Book Fair’s in the country.
The success of the Book Fair has raised thousands of valuable dollars towards our work with those who struggle in the city. That’s the thrill we get from seeing thousands of people turning up at the Boo kFair and buying armfuls of books, we know then that all the hard work is worth it and we’re a little closer towards making Wellington a more just and happy place to be.
The Book Fair is a mammoth effort and only possible through a committed group of tireless volunteers and generous sponsorship by local government and the business community. Thousands of volunteer hours are spent sorting books and setting up the Convention Centre to make the Book Fair such a great event. We are so thankful to the people and business’s who give their time and resources to make the BookFair happen.
